The Rotary Club of MiltonUlladulla will sponsor an inaugural competition for choirs from Thursday 20th September 2018 until Sunday 23rd September 2018, to be held in the Milton-Ulladulla area. If successful, the event will become biannual.

A “choir” comprises not less than 10 people nor more than 50, is a capella, and completely amateur. The number of choirs is limited to 16, on a first come basis. Entry fee is $95 per person, and $85 for early birds till 1 April 2018.

The competition will ballot choirs into pools of four for a sing-off against each of the other 3 choirs in the pool. The two highest scores move to the next ballot and the process is repeated through at least three phases until only two choirs remain. A team of professional judges has been engaged.

Prize money for 2018 is, $5,000 ($10,000)* for first and $2,500 ($5,000)* for the runner-up. (* only if there are sufficient entries to cover the higher figure)

The Milton-Ulladulla district south of Sydney is a very popular holiday spot, and is full of attractions of every description. There are ample accommodation options available ranging from camping to four/five star. The event will segue into Escape ArtFest, which in this, its 14th year, will be better than ever.

Event Description

BALLOTS    For the initial ballot each of 16 choirs will be allocated a number and numbers will be drawn at the opening ceremony indicating which choirs will join which pool for the opening round.

HEATS         The first round of heats will see each choir in each of the four pools sing off against each other choir in the same pool, with performances scored out of 100 points. The top two scorers will progress to the next phase.

SEMI FINALS  The second round will repeat the first, with choirs balloted into two pools.

FINALS      The third and final round will have one pool of four choirs and the two highest scorers will be declared the winners.

CONCERTS   There will be public concerts in various halls and spaces in the Milton-Ulladulla area.

WORKSHOPS   Subject to demand, we intend to conduct professional development workshops for choirs with well-known and qualified tutors.

SINGERS LOUNGE   For each of the four nights of the event we will operate a singers lounge in the venue where the competition takes place, and food and drinks will be available, and also a stage, lighting and sound system for performers to do whatever they please.
